When starting a gluten-free lifestyle some food is just not going to have the taste and texture that you are familiar with. This is especially the case for bread and crackers. I highly recommend giving your taste buds a break at the beginning rather then trying to find a substitute for these items. It just doesn’t seem to work for most people.
When our family began eating gluten-free I vividly remember the day that we made cheeseburgers for dinner with gluten-free buns. None of us were fans. I immediately started thinking, “Can we do this?” We started skipping the buns and instead using lettuce wraps for our burgers. It was great for us. Then after months had passed, we decided to try gluten-free buns again. We all loved them! (Trader Joe’s buns are our favorite) So, it just takes some time to get used to gluten-free and, if you break from those items for a while they just might become something that you look forward to eating again.

That is what I am planning. Take a break from bread products then start again with a whole new style of bread and baking!

Hi Amanda, I hope that taking a break works for you! I really believe that it does help make the transition easier.
